Frequently Asked Questions — Spanish Courses in Tenerife
How many students are in a Spanish class in Tenerife?
Maximum 10 students per class. Tenerife is the only year-round warm destination in our network — thanks to the Canary Islands' unique climate, temperatures stay between 20–28°C in every month of the year, making it particularly popular for winter courses.
When can I start a Spanish course in Tenerife?
Every Monday, year-round — and this is one of Tenerife's greatest advantages. While mainland Spain can be cold in December, January and February, Tenerife offers warm sunshine and the same high-quality teaching. It is our most popular winter destination by far.
What accommodation is available in Tenerife?
Homestay with local Canarian families and student apartments, both well-located relative to the school. The school is based in Santa Cruz or the surrounding area — the working capital of the island rather than the tourist south, which gives you a far more authentic Spanish immersion experience.
Is the Spanish spoken in Tenerife different from mainland Spain?
Canarian Spanish has a distinctive accent and some vocabulary differences from Castilian Spanish — it is closer to Latin American Spanish in some ways, with a softer pronunciation of certain sounds. For most learners this is not a problem at all and actually enriches your understanding of Spanish as a whole. Your teachers are trained in standard Spanish and will teach you in a way that is universally understood across the Spanish-speaking world.
Is Tenerife a good destination for the 55+ programme?
Tenerife is one of our top two recommendations for 55+ students (alongside Sevilla). The year-round warm climate is a major draw, the pace of life is relaxed, the island is safe and easy to navigate, and the combination of learning Spanish in the morning and exploring a beautiful island in the afternoon is exactly what this programme is designed for. Many 55+ students come in January or February specifically to escape the northern European winter.
